#ABLEtoSave with NC ABLE

August is #ABLEtoSave month; learn more about the importance of NC ABLE.

Let’s celebrate! August is #ABLEtoSave Month and it’s time to raise awareness about the importance and value ABLE accounts bring to people with disabilities and their families.

As of Dec. 31, 2022, over 137,000 individuals are saving with ABLE accounts. And nearly 2,000 account holders are participating in the NC ABLE Program.

NC ABLE allows individuals of all ages with the occurrence of disability prior to the age of 26 the opportunity to save more than $2,000 in total assets, and maintain eligibility for crucial public supports and resources, like SSI, SSDI and Medicaid. The total annual contribution limit for NC ABLE accounts is $17,000 and working individuals can save even more thanks to the ABLE to Work provision.

Big changes are coming! In 2026, the age of eligibility is increasing from 26 to 46. So, NC ABLE is still available to ALL ages, but the occurrence of disability must be prior to the age of 46. This means an additional 6 million people, including 1 million veterans, may be eligible for the NC ABLE Program.

NC ABLE has changed the way people with disabilities and their families participate in the community and plan financially. NC ABLE empowers people to save and invest for the future, as well as the additional expenses often associated with having a disability.

#ABLEtoSave month is a time to share the good news!

Get involved! Throughout August:
