Did you know that opening an NC ABLE account can easily be done at NCABLE.org, in around 15 minutes, and with as little as $25.00?
I recently began working with the NC ABLE Program and wanted to see if opening an account is as simple as they say it is. So, I decided to go through the enrollment process myself. Follow along as I give you some takeaways!
First, it only took me 10 minutes to go through the process. It might take some people more or less time but the bottom line, it is quite simple. Visiting the home page, I scrolled down to the "open an account" button.
I also used the Enrollment Checklist to answer my few remaining questions before continuing on with the process.
Since I was going through enrollment for myself, there were minimal requirements needed; name, address, driver’s license and Social Security number, all of which I pulled out of my wallet and entered. If you are creating an account on behalf of someone, the Enrollment Checklist can give insight into what information is needed based on your situation.
If you are like me, investing can be confusing. Once again, the Enrollment Checklist was a huge help since it described the different investment options available. The investing basics page also provides real-world examples of what people may use an NC ABLE account for, and which investment option may work best for each situation.
As far as funding an account, I chose to deposit money directly from my paycheck. However, that is not the only option. Guess where you can learn about the funding options online? You got it-- the Enrollment Checklist! After your initial $25 payment, you have four options to fund your account.
After deciding on how I will invest in and fund my account, I was ready to create a username and password, along with three security questions.
And that was it, I was done. Creating an NC ABLE account only took 10 minutes and was as easy as 1…2…3!
